Thesis financial aid is for eligible students attending Spanish schools who can prove that they have a specific educational support need.
There are two types:
- Students with special educational needs due to disabilities, severe behavioural or communication/language disorders or autism spectrum disorders.
These students must be at one of the following stages of education:
a) Pre-school education.
b) Primary education.
c) Compulsory secondary education.
d) Baccalaureate.
e) Basic vocational training courses.
f) Intermediate and advanced vocational training courses.
g) Professional art studies.
h) “Preparing for adulthood” programmes.
i) Other vocational training programmes.
- Gifted students.
These students must be at one of the following stages of education:
a) Primary education.
b) Compulsory secondary education.
c) Baccalaureate.
d) Intermediate and advanced vocational training courses.
e) Professional art studies.
– Age:
- At least 2 years old by 31 December 2024 in the case of students with a disability, a severe behavioural disorder, a communication and language disorder or autism spectrum disorder. Exceptionally, aid may be awarded to students under the age of two provided that the relevant teams certify the need for early schooling due to the nature of the disability.
- At least 6 years old by 31 December 2024 in the case of students with high intellectual abilities.
– Registration in the municipal register: Yes, in any municipality in Spain. All members of the household must be registered at the same address as of 31 December 2024.
– Legal residence: EU citizens must provide proof of permanent residence in Spain. Non-EU citizens (except those under 18) must be holders of a valid residence permit as of 31 December 2024.
– Required documentation: Spanish national identity document (DNI), identity card for foreign nationals (TIE), passports for all members of the household.
– Income:
To be eligible for the scholarships and grants for the 2025-2026 academic year, the annual income thresholds shown in the table below must not be exceeded, depending on the number of members in the household:

A maximum threshold of €155,500 per year is also set for income from economic activities or shares in companies.
How is income calculated?
The maximum income thresholds are based on the sum of the gross annual income of all eligible members of the household during 2024.
This calculation may include deductions, which will be subtracted from the household income, in the following specific cases:

There are two cases in which financial aid may be awarded even if the family is above the financial thresholds:
- Students from large families with specific educational support needs due to a disability, a severe behavioural disorder, a communication and language disorder or autism spectrum disorder may be awarded a transport and school meal allowance (for the specific amounts, see the ‘Amount and Frequency’ section).
- Students who can prove that they have specific educational support needs will be awarded the fixed-amount allowance for additional general expenses (for the specific amounts, see the ‘Amount and Frequency’ section).
–Assets: Households are eligible for scholarships if the relevant members do not own urban (or rural) properties (excluding the primary home) with a total cadastral value exceeding €42,900 as of 31 December 2024.
Furthermore, the sum of all the reduced net income from investments plus the positive net balance of all the capital gains and losses of the relevant family members may not be higher than €1,700.
Incompatibilities:
These scholarships cannot be applied at the same time as any scholarship or financial aid awarded for the same purpose, or as the general scholarships awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports.
Amount and frequency:
Students with specific educational support needs due to a disability, severe behavioural disorder, communication and language disorder or autism spectrum disorder:
- Tuition: up to €862
- School transport: up to €617
- School dinner: up to €574
- School boarding: up to €1,795
- Transport for going home at the weekends (for pupils boarding in special education schools): up to €442
- In-city transport: up to €308
- Books and teaching materials in primary education, compulsory secondary education and basic vocational training: up to €105 (or up to €204 for other post-compulsory education)
- Pedagogical or language therapy: as may be established as necessary and sufficient in each case, up to a maximum of €913 each.
Students from large families with specific educational support needs due to a disability, severe behavioural disorder, communication and language disorder or autism spectrum disorder, who are above the financial thresholds:
- Intercity transport allowance: up to €617
- In-city transport allowance: up to €308
- School dinner allowance: up to €57
- Students with specific educational support needs associated with being gifted:
Participation in specific programmes: up to €913
Students who can prove that they have specific educational support needs will be awarded the fixed-amount allowance for additional general expenses even if they are above the financial thresholds:
- The amount of this financial aid is €400.
