Non-contributory pension supplement for people who live in rental housing
Description:

Economic support for individuals in receipt of a non-contributory disability or retirement pension who live in rented accommodation and do not own any properties.

The amount of the supplement is €525, paid as a single annual payment.

Requirements: 

– Age:

  • Applicants must be 65 or over (for those in receipt of a non-contributory retirement pension). 
  • Applicants must be between 18 and 65 years of age (for those in receipt of a non-contributory disability pension). 

– Registration in the municipal register: Applicants must be registered as residents in a Spanish municipality, at the address where the rented accommodation is located.

– Legal residence: Applicants must have legal residence in Spain, demonstrated with a valid residence permit.

– Required documentation: DNI (Spanish national identity document), NIE (identity number for foreign nationals). 

– Employment status/income: There are no specific requirements as any applicable requirements have already been fulfilled in connection with the non-contributory pension.

– Assets: Applicants may not own any residential properties, regardless of their use.

– Recognised disability: Applicants must have a minimum degree of disability of 65% to receive a non-contributory disability pension.

– Housing situation:

  • Applicants must be the holders of the rental agreement on the date of the application.
  • Applicants may not be the spouse or unmarried partner of the owner of the property or be their relative up to the third degree (i.e. they may not be their parents, children, great-grandparents, grandparents, great-grandchildren, grandchildren, siblings, uncles or aunts, nephews or nieces, parents-in law or siblings-in-law). 
  • They must habitually live in the rented property. The rental agreement must have a duration of more than one year. The holder of the agreement must have lived in the rented property for at least six months before submitting the application.
  • If several persons in receipt of a non-contributory pension are living in the same rented accommodation, only the holder of the rental agreement can receive the supplement. If there is more than one holder, only the person appearing first in the agreement is entitled to the supplement.
  • If the applicant is not the holder of the rental agreement and is separated or divorced, their right to use the property must be recognised by a court judgement even if their ex-spouse appears as the holder of the agreement.

– Amount and frequency:

The amount of the supplement is €525.

It is paid as a single payment into the bank account into which the applicant’s non-contributory pension is paid.
