Rent payment benefits for specific groups in Barcelona city
Description:

Financial benefits for individuals with low or moderate incomes at risk of residential social exclusion. Their aim is to enable beneficiaries to remain in their usual rented home in the city of Barcelona.

The financial aid is aimed at two specific groups:

  • Single-parent families
  • Over-55s living alone
Requirements: 

– Household: For the purpose of these benefits, a household is the set of people registered as living at a given address. People living under a subletting arrangement (renting a room) are not included.

– Registration in the municipal register: Yes, applicants must be registered as residents in Barcelona at the time of application. 

– Legal residence: Yes. Applicants must have had legal residence in Spain for five years (the last two must be the two years immediately preceding the date of the application).

– Required documentation: The applicant’s valid Spanish national identity document (DNI) / tax ID (NIF) / identity number for foreign nationals (NIE).

– Income:

In order to be eligible for the financial aid, the weighted annual household income may be no more than the following amounts:

In cases of disability or severe dependency:

The household must allocate at least 30% of its income to rent.

– Assets: Applicants may not own or have the right to live in any other property (unless they are unable to use it due to being separated/divorced or because the property is inaccessible for them by reason of disability).

The household may not have a savings taxable base of more than €500 in the personal income tax (IRPF) return.

– Recognised disability/Dependency: See the "Income" section.

– Housing situation: The dwelling must be the applicant’s usual and permanent home in Barcelona city, and they must be registered as a resident. Applicants must be the holders of the rental agreement.

– Amount of rent: The amount of monthly rent for the dwelling for which the benefit is being applied for may not exceed €1,100.

- Incompatibilities: 

This benefit may not be received simultaneously with other financial aid or benefits with the same purpose (paying rent) for the same monthly payments. This means that, if you are already receiving another form of financial aid to pay rent for the same month, you may not receive this benefit for the same period.

- Amount:

Benefits are paid for a maximum of 12 months (from January to December 2026).

The monthly amount of the benefit will be established by applying the following formula: Amount of the benefit = current rent - 30% of weighted household income

The maximum amount of the benefit is €400 per month, and the minimum is €20 per month.
